By the Numbers
Resilience Relief & Recovery Reach, Inc., R4, was built to replace patchwork relief efforts with scalable, transparent, locally-controlled infrastructure. By reducing duplication of effort and returning control to the community, R4 has had an incredible impact on the communities it serves, including:
| 3,038 Completed Deliveries | 162,255 Food Boxes Distributed | 503 Active Supply Sites |
| 304 Volunteers & Drivers | 1,295 Unique Sites with Deliveries | Available in All 50 States & Canada |
R4 has assisted in the delivery of approximately 650,000 meals in western North Carolina in just over 18 months following Hurricane Helene. We also coordinated various relief efforts such as setting up gray water systems and Starlink networks, and clearing trees and debris.
How It Began
R4 was born out of disaster and built for what comes after. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, we launched as a regional coordination hub to meet the urgent needs of communities that were being overlooked by traditional relief systems. Today, we serve as a people-first infrastructure organization, supporting emergency response, bioregional recovery, and long-term resilience across the USA & Canada.
Our coordination started with the WNC Needs List & Appalachia Relief, which gave hubs, nonprofits, and volunteers a shared, real-time picture of what communities actually needed; no guesswork, no duplicated effort.
In Their Words…

that is because of her [Jessi’s] passion and commitment.”

Shifting Realities in the Wake of Climate-Related Displacement
“We are tiny but we are committed. The mutual aid being presented through R4’s dedicated facilitation is a huge resource. We are here for the long haul.”
– Laurie Duckett, Clean Water Expected in East Tennessee
“One of the amazing tools I use to coordinate Supply Drops is WNC Supply Sites. This website allows you to select different types of donations, to see which hubs have them available and which ones are in need… I can’t recommend check out the website enough! It’s a HUGE help in coordinating donations.”

“I have received assistance from Jessica Maness & her Nonprofit – R4Relief on behalf of many in Western North Carolina.
Cindy Gaines
She had the foresight to bring so many of our organizations together. Because of her efforts we are able to collaborate with those that we meet thru her weekly zoom meetings. We are all working toward the same goal of helping the people of WNC & ETN. Whether it’s providing free Hot meals, getting drivers & funding to place campers, and providing propane tanks & funding for propane gas for those who are living in campers, RV’s, and Tiny Homes. Creating spreadsheets that have all the information of those who have supplies & matching this with those who need supplies.
This is all the brainchild of Jessica Maness. Her ability to think out side the box has given all of us the platform to share our ideas, our leads, our contacts, our services and our supplies. And this allows us to fulfill the needs of the people much more efficiently. I have personally been able to obtain various leads & supplies for the people I serve. This has allowed me to post about the events like free Hot meals for all w/ the where, & the when of the event, so the community can be Blessed by this sharing of love & food.”
Volunteer for WNC/ETN Relief Efforts
“In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, R4 Relief… has consistently demonstrated professionalism, dedication, and compassion in addressing the urgent needs of families affected by this disaster.”
William Carpenter, The Valley Hope Foundation
“My friend told me about how he was about to be houseless… I then contacted Jessi in a hurry to see if she might be able to help him. Without asking she joined the voice chat immediately… She started by asking him about what he needed the most in that moment, one thing that if ranked with other needs would be at the top. And from there she began to not only build a game plan but also his self-esteem. To make sure he not only acknowledged his importance but his dignity especially. It was a simple, coherent exchange of dialogue and yet simultaneously very powerful… the way she approached his problems started from one question. I was beyond inspired by her thinking and her words… they were honest, simple, and grounding… I thought to myself she’s who I wanna be when I grow up. That’s what a hero looks like to me. And it’s as simple as being a person who is empathetic and using your time to make connections that can help people have their needs met in one way or possibly all of them. It’s the essence of using what you have no matter how small to make a difference that can help people discover pathways that they never would’ve imagined existed to get to the place they envision in their minds that originally seemed would never exist. It’s magical.”
